26. James Arnold4 Openshaw (James Moss5, James6, William7) was born in Newport, Newport, RI 7 September 1903. He graduated from Rogers High School in Newport and earned degrees at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and Columbia University in New York City. He was the first commissioner of public works in Newport, serving from 1931 to 1935. He designed and built the Freebody Park Stadium and the VanZandt Bridge in Newport. He then worked as the supervising engineer of Port Newark Terminals in New Jersey and supervising engineer of Carl Pleasant Dam in Arizona In 1940 he joined Stanley Home Products and served as works superintendent, production superintendent, plant engineer, engineering manager, and director of engineering. In June 1959 he was promoted to Director of Engineering, International Division, and directed overseas operations resulting in assignments in Mexico, Canada, The Netherlands, Brazil, and West Germany. In 1965 he opened a plant in Sidney, Australia and managed it until his retirement a year later. He served for twelve years on the Southampton school board and as a deacon of the First Congregational Church in Southampton. James died 11 November 1980 in Wickford, Warwick, RI, at 77 years of age.

He married Dorothy Evelyn Harvest 6 December 1930 in St Thomas Church, 5th Ave & 53, New York, NY. Dorothy was born 3 May 1909 in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. Dorothy was the daughter of William John Harvest and Emily Stock. Dorothy died 26 April 1989 in Rutland, Rutland, VT, at 79 years of age. James was a Civil Engineer with Stanley Home Products.

James Arnold Openshaw and Dorothy Evelyn Harvest had the following children:

child 27 i. Judy3 Openshaw was born in Newport, Newport, RI 13 October 1932. She married Walter T.C. Findeisen 8 July 1953. Walter was born 22 July 1930.

child 28 ii. James Arnold Openshaw was born in Newport, Newport, RI 14 November 1933. He married Barbara Ann Falge 8 September 1956. Barbara was born 4 September 1935. Barbara is the daughter of Raymond Louis Falge and Alma Marie Schiffer. James Openshaw (Jim) graduated from VMI and served in the U.S. Army. He founded Cherry Hill Construction Company based in Laurel, Maryland.
