64. James Morse5 Openshaw (James6, William7) was born in Newport, Newport, RI 20 January 1876. After he finished high school in 1893, James worked as a bookkeeper at his father's plumbing business. At the outbreak of the Spanish-American war, James volunteered to serve with the First Rhode Island Volunteers and was mustered out on May 13 1898 under Cpt Herbert Bliss - Finished service Nov 8 1898 (Ft Meade) Sergeant. After his father passed away in 1902, James took over as president of the family's plumbing business where he worked until 1938. He also worked as a government contractor at the Newport Torpedo Station on Goat Island as a Metal Worker. In 1942 James and Edith moved to Southampton, MA to live with their son James Arnold. James Morse died of a heart attack 11 August 1943 in Southampton, Hampshire, MA, at 67 years of age. His body was interred in Newport, Newport, RI.

He married Edith Mary Nichols 6 February 1900 in New York, NY. Edith was born 15 August 1874 in London, Middlesex, England. Edith was the daughter of George Joseph Nichols and Ruth Blundell. Edith died 15 December 1951 in Northampton, Hampshire, MA, at 77 years of age. Her body was interred in Newport, Newport, RI.

James Moss Openshaw and Edith Mary Nichols had the following children:

child 65 i. Ruth Mary4 Openshaw was born in Newport, Newport, RI 15 January 1901. She worked as a seamstress and was living in Newport, RI at 215 Gibbs Ave from 1919 to 1928 when she left for Detroit. She married Thomas Baird in 1928. Ruth died in Detroit, MI on 2 June 1929 at 28 years of age and was buried 4 June 1929 in the Openshaw Family plot in Newport, RI.
