253. Lemuel7 Gage (Remember Ingraham8, Benjamin9, John10, Thomas11, Thomas12, Thomas13) was born in
Pawtucket, Providence, RI about 1800. He was employed as a painter according to Providence business directories. He was warned out of town (Providence) 20 Aug
1832 to wit:
PROVIDENCE, August 20th 1832
The subscriber, Overseer of the Poor of the city of Providence, in the county of Providence, complains to the Honourable the Mayor and Alderman of said city,
that Lemuel Gage

He married Hannah Hill 25 September 1820 in RI. Hannah was born 4 June 1801 in Plymouth, MA to Jonathan Hill and Mary Hinds. After Lemuel died, Hannah married John Mitchell who was born 1786 in Rhode Island. He was a stone mason and died after 1880. He and Hannah lived with George R. Gage. Hannah died 17 January 1877 in RI, at 75 years of age. Her body was interred in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cranston, Providence, RI.
Lemuel Gage and Hannah Hill had the following children:
254 i. George Remember6 Gage was born in RI 11 March 1821. He was a mariner throughout his life, retiring as "Sea Captain". George Remember Gage died 23 May 1883 at Somerset, MA. His death certificate states his father Lemuel was born in Pawtucket and that his mother Hannah was born in Plymouth, MA. George married Mary Ann Knapp 11 January 1843. Mary was born 1 February 1823 in New Bedford, MA to James Knapp and Amie Tripp, and died 3 August 1909 in Bristol, CT, at 86 years of age. In the 1870 Census, 6th Ward, Providence, Rhode Island (page 392), George and his family are living with John Mitchell (age 74) and Hannah (age 59). George and Mary Ann had the following children:
255 ii. Lemuel Gage was born in RI 29 September 1823. He gained national attention for his antics when he was a boy after being arrented and jailed numerous times for thievery and armed robbery before he was 10 (Click here to see a newspaper article that appeared in papers as far away as Illinois in 1834. This copy appeared Friday, October 10, 1834 in the New-Bedford Mercury (New Bedford, MA) Volume: XXVIII Issue: 14 Page: 1). He married Julia A. Sheridan 16 March 1847 in Providence, Providence, RI. Julia was born 1826. They petitioned the court for a divorce on 22 Oct 1862. Lemuel served in the Navy during the Civil War, enlisting in New York in Aug 1863 for a three year enlistment. In the 1880 Census, 3rd Ward, Providence, RI, page 279, Lemuel is listed as a Master Mariner. They had 4 Children, one of whom (Charles) was still living in 1900.

256 iv. Albert C. Gage was born in Providence, Providence, RI 30 May 1827. Albert died 28 July 1858 in Providence, Providence, RI, at 31 years of age. He married Patience A. Bartlett. Patience was born about 1827 to James and Lucy Bartlett. Patience married second, Alvin W. Manchester on 2 Feb 1864 in Providence. Alvin was the son of John and Sarah Ann Manchester. Albert and Patience had the following child:
